The evening is based on the New England tradition of a beach clam bake, but with a Caribbean flair. The evening begins at 6:30pm just before the sun sets over Grace Bay beach. Tables set right in the sand, a pitcher of traditional rum punch and a friendly relaxed atmosphere make the Somerset clam bake just what one expects from the Caribbean. The music begins around sunset and it is served up with fresh steamed mussels, pasta, coleslaw and fresh home baked bread. Then it is on to the real star of the show, the baked clams. The clams are wrapped in a cheese cloth and slow roasted over a sand fire pit. In the traditional clam bake style, they are served along with sausage, sweet corn and potatoes they bake with. The clam bake evening at the Somerset has been going on for around three months so far and has been welcomed by tourists as well as locals alike. It is a place where one can mix and mingle or share a romantic evening with someone special. It offers something for everyone, at least anyone who likes took take their shoes off, sit back, relax and enjoy what is so special about the Turks and Caicos.
