Following years of research and planning, the Grand Turk Museum is about to unveil the plans and logo for the development of Provo’s National Museum in Grace Bay Village. The new museum is intended to showcase the history of the country and be a place where it can be captured and kept alive. On March 20, a fund-raising event, PUSH, will be held at the Regent Palms Resort where the founders, individuals and artists, and the architects Jeff Lee and John Thomson from Lee & Astwood Architects unveil their plans for Providenciales’ very own arts, history & cultural centre. Organizers are hoping to find investors for the project through the event and are enthusiastic about the possibility of Providenciales finally having a place to showcase its history. “It will bring your attention to the story of Provo and will capture your imagination,” fund-raising organizer Jacquine Giarratano said. The new museum is intended to stitch together random, commonplace moments from the lives of different people at the start of the island of Provo to present. “Being a part of this story makes you feel like they are moments of your own life,” Giarratano explained. The museum will connect and keep the memories of those who have lived and helped develop Providenciales with those who come to visit or have settled on the island. It will incorporate the findings through art and history and diverse cultural stories accumulated through the years. The museum will offer a new opportunity for tourists who visit Providenciales to experience the culture and history of the country. It will also offer residents the chance to peek into the past and see what the island was like when outsiders first arrived decades ago. “History is how we explain culture and, art is how culture expresses itself. So they are all parts of the same thing,” said Dr Donald Keith. Giarratano has volunteered to coordinate and organize the charity event with the support of Brenda Ludington, Dr. Neal Hitch, Dr. Donald Keith and Dr. Robert Krieble, benefactors of the museum. Together with Stacy Steensland (Creative Director), David Bowen (Entertainment & Culture) and Gemma Slattery (Fund Raising) the group is working together with the Grand Turk Museum and its board of trustees to organize the event and get the fund-raising efforts off the ground. For more information about the PUSH event and the ticket sales, contact Giarratano on 242 5056, or visit the Facebook page and the event site at the Grand Turk Museum’s web site (www.tcmuseum.org).
