Off-duty detectives foil two thefts, catch suspects in both PDF Print E-mail

Off-duty police detectives foiled two attempted purse-­snatchings during the last week, catching suspects in both cases.

At about 8:25 p.m. on May 27, an off-duty police detective saw a man steal a handbag from a tourist on Grace Bay Road and chased the man down behind Danny Buoy’s restaurant, police said.

Police charged the man with theft and unlawful entry.

“This act was applauded by the tourist who was able to get back her handbag with all its contents,” police said.

In a separate incident at 9 p.m. May 31 near the ball park in Kew Town, two off-duty police detectives saw a man trying to snatch a handbag from a woman who screamed for help.

One detective stayed with the victim while the other chased the suspect and caught him near ACE Plumbing.

The man will be charged with attempted theft, police said.

“The victim commended the police for coming to her assistance and being able to apprehend the culprit,” police said.

Armed robbery suspect arrested, second sought

Police caught one of two masked and armed men who robbed Nell’s gift shop May 31 and are seeking the other robber.

“It was reported that two armed masked individuals robbed the business of a quantity of cash and cell phones and utilized a vehicle to make good their escape,” police said.

One suspect was caught within an hour of the robbery, and police say they know the second suspect they are seeking.

Grand Turk police probing aggravated burglary

Police in Grand Turk are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred on May 28 about 4:30 a.m. in Breezy Brea.

A man was injured and required hospitalization, police said.

A male suspect is in custody, and the investigation is continuing.
