A local community focused group has organized a youth basketball camp that will not only teach youngsters the craft of the sport but will concentrate on strengthening their spirits and help them overcome daily obstacles by educating them on the principles of life. KJ’s Basketball Camp’s primary goal is to equip the Turks and Caicos Islands’ young citizens with excellent decision making skills and provide them with the necessary tools to keep them drug free, motivated, and to strive for personal success on and off the court. “Our mission is to teach children the fundamentals of basketball while promoting discipline, dedication and teamwork in a fun environment. The program strongly emphasizes education, positive behavioral modification skills and constructive conflict resolution techniques,” says a representative from the camp. “One of our major focal points will be teaching young people how demonstrating a positive attitude is a principle that will guide them throughout a triumphant life.” The basketball camp is open to boys ages 6-12 and for girls of all ages. It will be held at the Gustavos Lightbourne Gymnasium from Aug. 8-13 for boys and Aug. 15-20 for girls. Camp Registration starts Aug. 4 and 5 at the Gustavos Lightbourne gym from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. For more information, contact 649-246-4319 or 649-346-6108.
