Hotel and tourism representatives staged a sales blitz over the Valentine’s Day weekend to coincide with American Airlines resuming a weekly, non-stop flight on Saturdays from Dallas to Providenciales.

“American Airlines’ commitment to the islands reflects the Turks and Caicos Islands’ development as an outstanding Caribbean destination of choice,” said Texas native Karen Whitt, president of the Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association and general manager of The Somerset Resort.

“We are excited about welcoming Texans to our destination and are confident that the new route will boost tourism for 2010 and beyond,” said.

The TCHTA saw more than 35 qualified travel agencies both in the Houston and Dallas areas. The sales calls included presentations by Grace Bay Resorts, The Regent Palms, The Somerset, Royal West Indies, Gansevoort, Ocean Club Resorts, Seven Stars, The Sands as well as the TCI Tourist Board.

“Without a doubt, all of the travel agents that we met with were thoroughly excited about the non-stop Dallas flight which is now operating every Saturday,” said Caesar Campbell, chief executive officer of the TCHTA.

“It was clear that our visit made a positive impact on the travel partners who were very appreciative of the update on the tourism and hotel product offerings in the TCI we presented,” Campbell said.
