In another suprising announcement, Dr. Carlton Mills resigned from the Governor’s Advisory Council, citing a potential conflict of interest with his work for and potential investment with a medical university proposed in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

“As you might be aware, I am actively working with a team to establish an Off-Shore Medical University in the islands,” Mills said in his letter of resignation to His Excellency the Gov. Gordon Wetherell. “Additionally, the group has also expressed other interest in the islands in relation to investment, which I might be a part of.”

“These matters are of interest to me and in order to avoid any possible conflict of interest with my involvement in the Advisory Council, I regrettably tender my resignation with immediate effect. I wish you and the Council the very best.”

When contacted by the fp for comment, Mills confirmed he has resigned for personal reasons.

“I am grateful to Dr. Mills for his contribution during his time on the council and wish him all the best for the future,” the governor said.

Mills was one of seven Belongers who were appointed by the governor in August to be his support team and offer him advise on matters of the country.

The council, which includes Joseph Connolly, Edith Cox, Theo Durham, Eugene Otuonye, Doreen Quelch-Missick and John Smith, have met bi-monthly or more often for the past six months deciding issues of national importance.
The governor has yet to announce who or if he will be replacing Mills.
