Turks and Caicos Islands tourism, hotel and resort representatives continued marketing the country as an upscale vacation destination at this year’s New York Times Travel Show in New York City. The Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association (TCHTA), Turks and Caicos Tourist Board, the Regent Grand Resort and the Villa Renaissance were among more than 600 exhibitors who were on hand to represent more than 150 countries. The February event drew more than 16,000 travellers who got the chance to plan and book vacations earlier in the year. “The New York Times Travel Show is one of the most effective ways to reach target consumers in New York and from across the U.S.,” said TCHTA’s Chief Executive Officer Caesar Campbell. “The northeast, in particular New York and the tri-state area, continues to be our major market source for the Turks and Caicos Islands as the islands are easily accessible with daily flights from these gateways.” The TCI delegation educated consumers, travel trade and wholesalers on TCI’s product offerings with an audiovisual presentation highlighting the islands’ hotels, restaurants, attractions and culture. “Attendance at a show such as this one is an excellent means of connecting many travel wholesalers with thousands of travellers all looking to book their next adventure,” Campbell said. “The show allowed the Turks and Caicos Islands to strengthen our presence in the marketplace. We met with hundreds of travel agents and consumers who visited our booth, as well as trade press such as Travel and Leisure, Conde Nast Travel, World Travel News and Travel Weekly.” The show attracted representatives from the world’s leading tourism markets including Africa, the Caribbean and Europe. A record number of trips were purchased through deals, savings and online purchase opportunities.
