Charges were brought this week in the April 16 robbery of employees of the Turks and Caicos Lotto, police said. So far, five individuals have been arrested and brought up on charges relating to the incident. On Friday, April 16, police responded to a report of a robbery in Providenciales, where two employees of Turks & Caicos Islands Lotto were robbed of an undefined quantity cash at gunpoint in the Richmond Hill area. No one was injured during the attack, but the police quickly got their investigation underway with rapid results. The five suspects were first confirmed to be arrested by police on April 26, some ten days after the incident. Those arrested include three males, two Haitians and one Turks and Caicos Islander, along with two Haitian females, in connection with the robbery. On April 30, police charged the first three suspects, all Haitian nationals. Erla Bozier, 27, Marcerline Gardiner, 30, and Jackson Jacques, 34, were charged with handling stolen goods.” On Tuesday, May 4, police announced more charges in the case. Ruben Campbell, a 22-year-old Turks Islander, was charged with conspiracy to rob. Then on Wednesday, May 5, police charged Amerchand Velyn, a 27-year-old Haitian national, with robbery. According to Detective Sgt. Calvin Chase, the police are pleased to have made arrests in the case, but he did confirm that the case is not closed just yet. “It is still under investigation,” he said, so further details could not be released. Other recent police success include the apprehension of 70 irregular immigrants on Wednesday, April 28. The operation resulted in the processing and repatriation of one Jamaican male national, 10 female Haitian nationals and 59 male Haitan nationals. Regular operations are carried out by the department to capture and return illegals to their home countries.
