![]() Middle Caicos took another step toward solving its dog problem recently when residents brought their pets to be spayed and neutered. Eighteen surgeries were performed, and seven dogs were brought in for thorough checkups at the Blue Horizon resort’s warehouse, which was transformed into a working animal hospital. The Society for the Prevention for Cruelty to Animals, which organized the clinic, says the wild dog problem on Middle Caicos is “critical, with several dozen dogs in each village running wild, unowned, unkempt, disturbing garbage, and developing dangerous pack mentality.” The TCSPCA is planning to meet with government officials soon to discuss how the feral dog problem in both North and Middle Caicos should be addressed by introducing a humane trapping/education program on both islands. The TCSPCA thanked all volunteers, including veterinarian Dr. Richard Sefcik, his assistant Ibis Van Walleghem, and Dallas & Christi Shumaker from Blue Horizon who donated the space for the clinic.
