Crime Corner: Police charge four with gun crimes over holidays PDF Print E-mail

Four men were charged with gun crimes over the holidays that carry the new mandatory minimum five-year prison sentences if those charged are convicted.

Jimmy Harris, 23, and Stephen Joseph, 20, both Turks Islanders, and Evens Petit, 23, a Haitian national, were all charged with wounding, possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition and discharging a firearm, police said.

The charges stem from an incident on Christmas Day in Blue Hills on Providenciales. They appeared in Providenciales Magistrate’s Court and have been remanded in custody to Her Majesty’s Prison on Grand Turk.

In a separate incident on New Year’s Day, police charged Jermaine Simpson, 33, a Jamaican national, for possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition. He appeared in the Providenciales Magistrate’s Court and has been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison on Grand Turk.

Robbery arrest

Police charged Alexander Duncanson, 40, a Bahamian/Turks Islander for robbery in an incident Dec. 27. He appeared in Providenciales Magistrate’s Court and has been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison on Grand Turk.

Police seek stolen vehicles

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating two stolen vehicles.

One is a two-door, left-hand drive automatic 2008 gold Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, license number TC 9473. This vehicle has big tires on shiny Ford Ranger rims, and the tailgate is dented. Either the driver’s side or the passenger’s side glass is broken.

The other stolen vehicle is a 1997 white Toyota Hiace 9-seat passenger bus, license number TC 10522. This bus has dents on it.
Anyone knowing the whereabouts of these stolen vehicles is asked to contact the police at 946-4259, 999, 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS(8477).
