Winning top prize in Beaches Resort Villages and Spa 2nd annual Fit to Serve fitness challenge was one-time Assistant Human Resource Manager, Jameka Williams was happy to be called a big loser.

Williams beat out two tough competitors by shedding an astonishing 19 pounds for the competition, which ended last week.

Camp Sesame Assistant Manager Jaseth Barrett was crowned first runner up for her 14-pound weight loss, while Zone Manager Rommel took the third prize losing just over eight pounds.

The resort once again joined force with the Wrightfully Fit Gym to launch the annual Fit to Serve Fitness challenge geared towards empowering, encouraging and motivating employees to get fit and lead a healthy lifestyle.

Williams who started the competition at 273 pounds explained that her motivation behind joining the challenge was to gain control of her weight-related ailments. She said, “I feel amazing, I am 19 pounds lighter, my blood pressure is low and I am more mobile,” She continued, “This weight loss challenge has definitely helped improve my health, boost my self-confidence, and also enhance the quality of service I offer this resort, I thank Beaches Resorts for this amazing life-altering opportunity.”

John Wright, Director of Wrightfully Fit Gym, who designed a workout program and worked closely with participants said, “Consistency and discipline was the key to this fitness challenge.”

A special menu was also designed by Beaches Executive Chef Colin Watson that included items such as fresh fruits, vegetables, baked chicken breast and beans.

Don Dagenais, General Manager of the resort is delighted by the initiative the three managers have taken.

“Leading a healthy lifestyle is not only for the work environment but it is a life time commitment,” he said. “I applaud the three employees who have taken charge and are leading the way to becoming better and healthier individuals.”

Runner-ups Barrett and Forbes were awarded bicycles, while top prize winner Williams took home $200 for new wardrobe, professional photo shoot and five months of gym membership at the Wrightfully Fit Gym, as well as a weekend stay for two at a high end resort on Providenciales.

How to kick start your fat burn

Eat the foods that burn calories

Raw vegetables such as celery, cucumbers, bell peppers, lettuce, tomatoes use almost as many calories in digestion as they add to your body.

Turn off the TV

You actually burn less calories watching television than you do sleeping. If you simply can’t miss your favorite shows, get a little workout in while watching – do easy exercises like squats, sit-ups, jogging in place, or using resistance bands or hand weights

Spice it up

Try sprinkling some cinnamon on your next latte or apple slices. Researchers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture have shown that just a quarter of a teaspoon to one teaspoon of cinnamon taken with food can help boost metabolism twentyfold.

Breathe

Going outside and getting some fresh air several a day might shrink your gut as well as clear your head. Getting off your chair several times in a day can burn extra calories and keep your metabolism kicking.
