Reading opens the window to the world. The Youth Department of the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture is asking members of the community to help open that window for children with the return of the Little Reader’s Book Club.

This program will be conducted at the Victoria Public Library each Saturday from 11 a.m until noon for children ages 4-10. The department is looking for volunteers to help jump start kids’ imagination through reading.

As a volunteer organization, its success depends on the enthusiasm and efforts of its members, so it is encouraging everyone to play a part and help encourage young people to read.

Research has proven that reading develops the mind, offering so many other benefits to youngsters. You can help to be a part of shaping and developing the youth of the Turks and Caicos Islands of tomorrow by volunteering your time to this important program.

To volunteer and for more information, contact Deputy Youth Director Nixon Dickerson at the Department of Youth Affairs.

Research shows that reading helps:

  • To write better
  • To concentrate better
  • Process new information in a better manner
  • Develop other interests when you know more about them
  • Develop an ability to understand how others think and feel
  • Become more open to new ideas
  • Stay well informed and speak well
  • Keep the mind active well into old age
