|Valentine’s Day Cup fun for all|

More than 500 people gathered on Bambarra beach Feb. 12 to watch more than 40 model sailboats compete for fun and cash in the largest ever turnout for the 11th annual event on Middle Caicos.
Sailors of all ages and experience captained hand-carved boats from 13-54 inches in length from the Middle Caicos Sailing Association (MCSA) fleet, while others built their own.
Competitors chased their boats around the race courses in the warm, shallow, crystal clear water to win cash prizes and bragging rights for the growing community event.
TCI Ferry Service made it easier than ever to get to the event from Providenciales, arranging for school buses to meet the ferries and take people across North Caicos and the causeway to Middle Caicos, then back again in the afternoon.
As always, ladies of the Church of God of Prophecy cooked food for all to raise money for the church’s children and youth programs on Middle Caicos.
PPC Ltd. donated the prize money for Class A, B and C races and to pay for music from Lovey and Lucky Forbes. New corporate sponsor Islandcom provided prizes for the Ladies Cup race and Captains Raffle.
Other sponsors included Blue Horizon Resort; Forbes, Forbes & Forbes Ltd.; Big Blue Unlimited; Middle Caicos Co-op Services; David Bowen family; MC Administrative Services; Liquors Plus and Radio 92.5.
This year’s cup was run by Commodore John Lawson and Referee Daniel O. Forbes, founder of the MCSA, which maintains the fleet.
