An armed burglary suspect was wounded by police gunfire Tuesday when officers responded to reports of burglaries at two residences in Long Bay Hills, which has been hit by a number of burglaries in recent months, police said.

“About 1:35 p.m., the police responded to two burglaries in Long Bay, and during one of those burglaries they encountered two armed suspects,” said police Sgt. Calvin Chase.

Police shot one of the suspects, but the other got away, Chase said. TCI Emergency Medical Services took the wounded man to the hospital.

“At around 2 p.m. on Tuesday (March 1), a man was rushed to the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre in Provo by ambulance, suffering gunshot wounds to his lower limbs,” said Dr. Robyn Barnes, chief of medical services at the hospital.

“He was treated by emergency staff, and his condition was quickly stabilised,” she said, adding that the man’s injuries were not life threatening.

Police remained in the neighborhood for several hours after the shooting, blocking roads and checking vehicles for the suspect.
