![]() Students at the Enid Capron Primary School were treated to a delightful surprise last week when Sesame Street’s favorite furry friend Elmo paid a special visit to the kindergarten class, hosting a fun-filled reading session. Elmo read several well-known Sesame Street tales to 40 excited kindergartners. The story time event, which was held to celebrate 2011 Education Week, is a part of the Sandals Foundation literacy program which aims to create a fulfilled learning environment where children are taught the importance of reading. Principal Rachel Taylor said the students look forward to story time. “It’s an exciting treat for them to be able to move away from traditional classroom setting to a fulfilled learning experience with the help of their favorite character,” she said. “Reading to kindergartners with the help of Elmo creates learning in a fun interactive way,” said Beaches Public Relations Manager Elanor Finfin, who was on hand to help with the reading session. “We are very grateful that we were given the opportunity to incorporate our partner Sesame Street into our sponsored school learning curriculum to give the kindergartners an interactive reading experience.” The Five Cays-based primary school is the second Sandals Foundation adopted school on Providenciales after the country’s largest high school, Clement Howell. The foundation has committed to making an impact in the school through creative education by giving kids the opportunity to interact with their favorite Sesame Street characters while learning at the same time. In addition to the Enid Capron Primary reading session, the foundation also hosted a series of educational events to celebrate the 2011 Education Week. Several tourism property tours were held for students of Clement Howell and neighboring school Ianthe Pratt Primary. A special reading session was also hosted by Sesame Street’s Zoe at the Ashcroft School.
