Crime corner: Police officer charged with theft PDF Print E-mail

South Caicos Police Sgt. Brian Statia has been charged with theft, police said.

He appeared in court May 16 and was released on bail.

Statia has been employed with the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police for the past 20 years. At the time of this allegation, he was the Officer in Charge of the South Caicos office.

Statia has been suspended pending the outcome of the court proceedings.

“The commissioner and other senior officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police are sadden by the alleged actions of Sgt. Statia; however, the integrity of the Royal Turks and Caicos Police is paramount, and all allegations of misconduct will be thoroughly investigated and persons will be held accountable for their actions,” a statement from police said.

Stolen New Age Academy computer equipment sought

Police are seeking public assistance in recovering computer equipment stolen in a Kew Town burglary May 11.

The equipment belonged to the New Age Academy and contains important information pertaining to students for their upcoming examinations.

Stolen were a black and grey Compaq desktop computer, a black 4 gigabyte Transcend flash drive with a green tip and a silver end, and a black and grey flash drive.

Police are asking anyone with information concerning this burglary and the stolen items to contact 911, Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS(8477) or the police at 946-4259.

Teenager caught with marijuana fined $450

A Turks and Caicos Island teenager has pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to possession of cannabis and been fined $450, police said.

Alexander Joseph, 18, must pay the fine within one week (by May 23) or spend one month in prison.

Two suspects sought in Kew Town bar robbery

Police in Providenciales are investigating a robbery at the Green Bar in Kew Town on May 12.

At about 12:20 p.m., two mask males dressed in dark clothing stole a small quantity of cash, liquor and cigars during the robbery.
