![]() Providenciales’ main police headquarters on Old Airport Road that has been condemned for many years was closed at 7 a.m. May 31, and officers were relocated to stations at Chalk Sound and Five Cays, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police announced today (May 27). The public should make reports in person at the Five Cays or Chalk Sound Police Stations, both of which will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The non-emergency number for police remains 649-946-4259. Emergency calls should be made to 911. Persons applying for Police Certificates of Character can do so at the Five Cays Police Station, and the hours of operation of the Police Records Office will remain the same as normal. The Criminal Investigation Division on Old Airport Road and the Saltmills Police Station will not be affected by the closure. New Commissioner of Police Colin Farquhar said working conditions for police have been a top priority since he took office in March. “He has been working tirelessly to find permanent solutions and alternatives for the employees of Main Station; however, the conditions at Main Station have deteriorated to such a point that an immediate interim solution had to be found,” according to a May 27 police press release. "In making this move to alternative premises we would appreciate your understanding and we will take the necessary steps to ensure that there is no reduction in service during and beyond this period," police said. Farquhar is considering a proposal to turn the old Myrtle Rigby Health Clinic into a police headquarters.
