![]() The Grand Turk Chapter of the Turks and Caicos Society for the Prevention for the Cruelty to Animals held its first spay/neuter clinic Aug. 8-13, it was a resounding success. Air Turks and Caicos donated transportation for TCI government veterinarian Dr. Mark Butler, TCSPCA volunteer veterinarian Dr. Rich Sefcik and volunteers to fly to Grand Turk to perform surgeries and conduct visits for local pets. Fifty-seven spay/neuter surgeries were performed during the week, which will result in a significant reduction of unwanted pets on the island. A number of dogs and cats also received health check-ups, vaccinations and medication in addition to being registered with the Department of Environmental Health. Lance Dowridge, assistant veterinary officer/animal control officer, helped with the setting up of the clinic and worked with owners who needed help with transporting their pets to the clinic for appointments. The Grand Turk chapter was formed in the spring to ensure that every animal in the TCI is cared for and free from abuse. The chapter’s shop, located on Duke Street just before it turns into Queen Street, is now open on cruise ship days as well as on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. There you can purchase dog and cat collars, pet toys, T-shirts and other goodies. For more information about the Grand Turk chapter, call 247-6235. Photo: Government veterinarian Dr. Mark Butler Thank you! The Grand Turk TCSPCA would like to thank all of the pet owners who brought their dogs and cats to the clinic. Tom & Ginny Allan
