![]() Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort Villages and Spas has announced that it has closed its doors for urgent repairs following Hurricane Irene. Sandals Resorts International Chairman Gordon “Butch” Stewart said structural and other repairs to the resort would require the resort to be closed for just over a month, and that every effort would be made to have the repairs effected as speedily as possible. The largest resort on Providenciales had already announced right after the hurricane passed that it would close to new arrivals for 15 days to clean up landscaping debris and conduct a full review of the property. “Guests scheduled to travel to Beaches Turks and Caicos while the resort remains closed will receive a full credit valid for up to one year towards a future stay at any Sandals Resorts or Beaches Resorts in the Caribbean,” the resort said at that time. Stewart said he owed a great debt of gratitude to the members of the Sandals team, many of whom volunteered to remain on property to ensure the protection and comfort of the resort’s guests, knowing that their own homes were under threat of flooding or structural damage. He commended their selfless efforts, which made it possible for guests to weather the storm with minimal discomfort and to protect the resort. He also said the resort chain’s charitable sector, the Sandals Foundation, would be reaching out to local communities that suffered damage and to provide assistance in the recovery process.
