![]() The Turks and Caicos Islands have experienced rapid growth in population, tourism and development over the past few decades, and the rate of growth is unprecedented in the Caribbean region. As the economy lags with the effects of global recession, the pause of activity allows for reflection about development in the islands and its positive and negative impacts socially, culturally, environmentally and economically. Locally-based environmental scientist, Kathleen McNary Wood, is currently conducting a study for Harvard University regarding the changes in the TCI over the past 30 years and their effects on the indigenous population. Wood is seeking to interview Turks and Caicos Islanders (Belongers) in order to determine their views and experiences regarding development in the islands. Those interested in participating in the study can call her at 649-244-4039 or 828-369-0461, or e-mail her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
