![]() The Turks and Caicos Tourist Board has launched an initiative to promote “The Sister Islands” in a new national campaign that includes billboards, print ads in national newspapers and magazines along with both radio and online advertisements. In taking on this new initiative, Director of Tourism Ralph Higgs said “we have an obligation to promote all 40 islands and cays that comprise the Turks and Caicos Islands, and this new endeavour we believe does just that.” The Grand Turk Cruise Center will have more promotional pieces showcasing our islands to some seven hundred thousand visitors who pass through that facility annually. Additionally, LCD screens at Providenciales and Grand Turk Airports will carry images from across the TCI. A survey of tourists in March showed that 97 percent never left Providenciales, while 4.5 percent and 3.7 percent visited North and Middle Caicos, respectively. “These new efforts by the board are driven to bring more traffic to the other islands by tourists who may be looking for something to do or another island to explore during their stay, and we believe that some of them may choose to return to vacation there,” Higgs said. In the source markets of the United States, Canada and Europe, the Tourist Board continues to partner with our wholesalers, airline partners and local hoteliers to promote the destination internationally. The board and members of the Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association just completed a sales blitz across the Northeast United States meeting with travel agencies and agents in four major markets. Properties represented during the week long meetings were Amanyara, Parrot Cay, Point Grace, The Regent Grand, Villa Renaissance, Comfort Suites, The Sands, Ocean Club and The Alexandra. Meetings with the travel agents and agencies were held in New Jersey, Connecticut, Long Island and Manhattan, New York respectively. During the Northeast sales blitz, the Tourist Board representatives and properties collectively met with 45 agencies and 465 agents. The board carried out a similar exercise in the Maritimes Provinces of Canada Aug. 7-19 to support the upcoming direct flight from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Providenciales beginning in February. Some of the cities visited were Halifax, Dartmouth, Newfoundland, Fredericton, Moncton and Charlottetown. Meetings were conducted with some eighty-seven agencies. In the coming weeks and months the Tourist Board will be exhibiting at a number of shows including Salon International Tourism Voyages (SITV) in Montreal, The London Wedding Show, World Travel Market (WTM) and International Luxury Travel Market in Cannes, France. TCI destination videos will be available on American Airlines, Continental, US Airways and Delta on all their domestic and international flights.
