![]() Youth tennis is heating up in the TCI as children of all ages warm up for a lifelong love of the game. Over the Oct. 14-16 weekend, the Graceway Sports Center hosted a juniors singles and doubles tournament that showcased some of the finest tennis talent in the nation. Players as young as eight aced their competition in the most competitive tournament the center has seen to date. “The tennis level was incredible,” says Graceway Sports Center tennis coach Reinaldo Garcia. “We are so happy to see so many great young players getting more and more involved in the sport.” The three-day event saw 26 players playing a total of 134 matches, vying for titles in five categories. For the first time, the tournament included a beginner mini-tennis category where Tal Levy placed first ahead of second place Myles Cox. The competition was tremendous in all categories, including the up to 11-year-olds, where Cole Nickson placed first and Matthew Danics landed in second place. Rodrigo Vazquez edged ahead of Ben Levy for the first place trophy in the up to 13-year-old class. In the 15-year-old category, the champion was Elijah Delancy, sponsored by The Hartling Group, and second place went to Tristan Greene. Raul Vazquez took home a first place trophy in the up to 17-year-olds, with second place going to Gievelli Williams. The champions in the junior doubles were Rodrigo Vazquez and Tristan Greene, who defeated Elijah Delancy and Chemar Millington. “I want to thank Amanyara for sponsoring the mini-tennis and the Hartling Group who sponsor Elijah Delancy in the Provo Elite tennis team,” Garcia said. The Provo Elite Tennis team was created by Garcia, who selected the group of eight youths with a high potential in the sport. The group trains several times per week in hopes of representing the TCI in International Competitions. The team training is possible thanks to sponsors PTS Equipment, AIB, Turquoise Construction Company Ltd. and Yoshi’s Sushi Bar.
