![]() A year of big accomplishments culminated when FortisTCI officially opened its new headquarters and customer service center on Leeward Highway with official fanfare and a huge customer service appreciation day celebration. Formerly Provo Power Company Ltd., the utility that provides electricity to most of the Turks and Caicos Islands has come a long way since Fortis Inc. of Canada bought the ailing company five years ago. Fortis Inc. CEO and President Stanley Marshall said the utility was “held together with bailing wire and duct tape” and was “within months of collapse” when Fortis bought it in 2006. Since that time, Fortis’ constant investment now totaling $135 million and the hard work of a dedicated staff has made FortisTCI a modern, reliable electricity provider to rival any in the region, Marshall said. This year, the second of two, mammoth high-efficiency diesel generators went online this year. Using less fuel and reducing emissions, these two generators now provide more than 50 percent of FortisTCI’s peak load. Also this year, the company was rebranded as FortisTCI, and its customer operations were moved from downtown to the new service center and headquarters on Leeward Highway. The three-story, 36,000-square-foot building was designed by John Redmond Associates and built by Projetech Construction Management and Services. Leslie Williams was responsible for the interior design. Then on Nov. 11, the new headquarters was officially opened with a triple ribbon cutting. His Excellency the Gov. Ric Todd did the honors for the second new generator and a new fuel tank farm, while Border Control and Labour Permanent Secretary Clara Gardiner snipped the ribbon at the headquarters. On Saturday, Nov. 12, the parking lot of the headquarters was the site of a big party, featuring food, music, dancing and kids games.
