Crime briefs: Man’s body found in woods off South Dock Road PDF Print E-mail

Police are investigating what they believe is the third homicide of 2011 in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

A man was found Dec. 14 in a wooded area off South Dock Road Providenciales with fatal injuries and died at the scene.

An autopsy will be performed within the coming days to ascertain the cause of death.

Woman sexually assaulted in carjacking on S. Dock Rd.

A woman was sexually assaulted after an armed man held up a couple Dec. 10 along South Dock Road, police said.

The couple was forced at gunpoint to drive to an area off South Dock Road where two other men became involved, police said. The driver of the vehicle was robbed of his personal belongings and his vehicle was stolen.

The woman was taken into nearby bushes and was sexually assaulted by one of the men, police said.

Police said people should be cautious while travelling in the area of South Dock Road when they pick up people or park in unlit, unpopulated areas. People should keep their vehicle doors locked at all times and only open them for persons known to them, police said.

Man wounded, robbed by masked man on S. Dock Rd.

A man was shot and robbed of a computer Dec. 10 on South Dock Road, police said.

The man was treated at the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre and released.

21-year-old sentenced for robbery, attempted murder

George Munroe, a 21-year-old Bahamian born Turks and Caicos Islander, received prisons sentences for robbing B&S Variety Store on Five Cays Road on Providenciales on Aug. 24, 2010.

He was sentenced Dec. 6 to 14 years for attempted murder, 12 years for robbery, one year each for two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one year for possession of unlicensed firearm.

American tourist dies while snorkeling off French Cay

A 67-year-old tourist from the United States died Dec. 7 while snorkeling with a group off French Cay.
Police said an autopsy determined that Barry Mosesman died from natural causes.
