The Turks and Caicos Islands Rugby Football Union Presidents XV select rugby team, led by Sean O’Neill, will battle it out with a Brooklyn rugby team on their home turf April 21.

Brooklyn team captain Daniel Newcombe released the names of the squad prior to their departure for the island on April 17. Newcombe, who is the Brooklyn half back and touring captain, said that the Brooklyn lads are very excited about the upcoming tour.

“We have been following the Flamingos last week against the Doggies and were impressed with the result they put on the board,” Newcombe said. “We’re definitely going to have to be at the top of our game to compete with the home team, but we are really looking forward to the challenge.”

Newcombe, who has played representative rugby for Great Britain, leads a strong touring squad from the club, which is based in Brooklyn, New York.

“We are a young club having only been formed about seven years ago, but we’ve developed a great club spirit and have performed very well in our local competitions back in N.Y.,” he said.

“We’ve been coached over the years by New Zealander Michael Haynes who has helped us tremendously with our skills and game ethos. We can’t wait to get down to the Caribbean and enjoy the warmth and hospitality the islands and TCIRFU have to offer.” Newcombe said.

Come support the TCI rugby players at their second match against the Brooklyn Rugby team. Kick off is 7 p.m. April 21 at Meridian Field.
