National Heroes Day will be celebrated throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands on Monday, May 28.

The Cultural and Arts Commission announces that the Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony in honor of the late Hon. J.A.G.S. McCartney, the first chief minister and National Hero of these islands, will be held at the J.A.G.S. McCartney Memorial Site on Grand Turk at 10 a.m.

Guest Speakers include Pastor Chad Archbold, Pastor Oswald Skippings, Pastor Dennis Simmons, Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson and performances by Ludwina Fulford.

Dignitaries or representatives laying wreaths during the Wreath Laying Ceremony include the governor, Advisory Council, Consultative Forum, commissioner of police, McCartney’s spouse, Grand Turk Ministers’ Fraternal, leader of the Peoples Democratic Movement, leader of the Progressive National Party, Ex Servicemen Legion, and Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture.

The entire community of Grand Turk is invited to attend, including all government and private schools, civic groups, Ex-Servicemen Legion, Girl Ministry of Health and Education Culture and Arts Commission Guides, Boy Scouts and Pathfinders.

For those who are unable to attend, the ceremony will be broadcast live on Radio Turks and Caicos.
