The Heineken Mixed Tag Rugby League spring season has come came to a close with the Wahoo’s unbeaten through the entire season. The victorious Wahoos preceded the rest of the teams with 12 wins and two drawn games out of 14 regular season matches. The Wahoos waited to play their major semi-final opponents when the Red Mist took on the Harriers. An outstanding play from both teams during the semi-finals ended with the Harriers winning, 6-3. The Navy Seals and the Try Harders also competed for a place in the major semi-final against the Jolly Ranchers. The Try Harders led the match only to have the Seals even out the match at 6-6 and put the game into overtime. During overtime, Try Harders player Franco Mompremier ran a brilliant line to score an individual try and club the Navy Seals out of the tournament. The semi-finals saw the Wahoos battle the Harriers, where the triumphant Wahoos walked away with an 18-4 victory and a place in the final match. The following match finished 16-5 in favor of the Jolly Ranchers over the Try Harders. The grand final saw the league’s top two teams contend to claim the trophy. A well-organized defense from both teams meant opportunities were tough to come by, but the Wahoos took a commanding 6-1 lead to the half-time break. A hat-trick by Callis Jones and good interplay between Simon Taylor and his team-mates had the Ranchers back in the contest, but second half tries to Lincoln Outten and Dean Griffiths kept the Wahoos in the lead and eventually emerge as the 2012 Spring Heineken Tag League champions. The Turks and Caicos Islands Rugby Football Union thanked everyone who took part in the league. A ceremony will be held June 8 during the annual President’s Dinner and Oval Ball at Brayton Hall.
