Students in the Turks and Caicos Islands who excel in school have a new opportunity to be rewarded with a high school scholarship thanks to the recently founded BRC Foundation. With the vision of furthering education in the Turks and Caicos Islands, the BRC Foundation was created in January of this year by Rock of Jesus Ministries Bishop Bryant Cox. “While the world is still in recession the BRC Foundation is paving the way for education in the Turks and Caicos Islands,” explained BRC Foundation President Bishop Bryant Cox at a press conference June 29 to announce the recipient of their first scholarship. Eleven-year-old Chelsea Stubbs was awarded by Cox and his Vice President and wife Pastor Charmaine Cox with a scholarship to the Maranatha High School beginning September. Reflecting on the famous John F. Kennedy quote, “Do not ask what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country,” Bishop Cox said there is nothing more important in this life than providing a secure future for our children. “Our young people our greatest natural resource,” he said. The foundation, and its board of directors, objective is to provide scholarships to students with outstanding achievement on the GSAT. Students that have passed the GSAT exams and are placed in the top 10 in the country with a GPA of 3.0 will be eligible to apply and be placed in Maranatha High School or Wesleyan Methodist High school, according to Cox. The scholarship will be for the five year term as long as the student maintains a 3.0 GPA. The foundation is also seeking to advance in education by implementing Home work/Tutoring centers, Computer Work shop in communities where students do not to have access to the Internet.
