The TCI Sports Commission together with TCI sports clubs are organizing the first Turks and Caicos “Sports Celebration” event on Saturday, Aug., 4 in the National Stadium on Provo.

The purpose is to honor and highlight the achievements of elite TCI athletes in Track and Field, featuring our very own star sprinter Delano Williams. Mr. Williams, whose dramatic come-from-behind victory last month at the 200-metre World Junior Championship in Barcelona, will be a guest of honor with other top TCI athletes.

The Sports Commission and TCI sports clubs are keenly aware that sports provide a positive outlet for young people and must be encouraged. Organized sports activities promote self esteem, self discipline, and a sense of achievement, as well as good fun and fellowship, all of which result in a healthier, more secure, and prouder society.

Indeed, the slogan that the Sports Commission has adopted is “Keeping Kids in Sports and Out of Courts.” The Turks & Caicos Sports Celebration will feature live music, food, and drink. A video of Mr. Williams’s exciting race will be projected for all to see.

The festivities at the National Stadium begin at 6 p.m. All are encouraged to come out and help celebrate sports in the TCI.

Entry fee is just $5 for adults and $3 for children. Proceeds go to help support sports in the TCI.
