On Monday March 23rd 2009, Hon. Galmore Williams, MP for Long Bay in Providenciales, was sworn in as the second Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Taking place at the Governor's Office in the nation's capital, Grand Turk, Hon. Williams was administered three different oath of allegiances by HE the Governor - Gordon Wetherell, in a ceremony that was witnessed by Attorney General Hon. Kurt DeFreities and Hon. Royal Robinson, Minister of Health and Human Services.
Immediately thereafter, the Hon. Williams signed the oath of office, enabling him to become the Turks and Caicos Islands second Premier.
The swearing in ceremony occured just hours after the previous Premier, Hon. Michael Misick, resigned his position 10 days earlier than expected. In a television interview Hon. Don-Hue Gardiner, PNP Party Chairman, said it was a good time to move on and give the new Premier time to form a new government and put in place the aggressive legislative agenda Hon. Williams has planned going forward. He also thanked Mr. Misick on behalf of his party for his years of service and wished him well going forward.
The country now awaits a statement from the new Premier Williams, answering their questions of what they can expect from his and most importantly, where we go from here.
