Exclusive TCI Cigar Blend Launched PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Long a status symbol of the rich and famous, cigars have made their way into the mainstream. A new brand of cigar, bearing the name of the country was launched last weekend at different locations in Providenciales, namely, Wine & Spirits Liquor Store, Vino Tiempo, Nikki Beach and Provo Golf Club. Aptly called “Turks Select Cigars”, the natural-wrapped premium cigar, is a Turks & Caicos exclusive and was blended specifically to distinguish TCI’s own from the other brands.

The huge cigar event allowed attendees to sample the new cigar and to take advantage of special offers. During the launch, a roller was flown in from the Dominican Republic especially for the event. Most of the attendees also paired the cigars with Bambarra 8 Year Old Reserve Rum, another TCI exclusive rum brand.

“This brand is exclusive to the Turks & Caicos Islands. You will not be able to purchase them anywhere else in the world. People have to come here to get it”, Founder of Turks Select Cigar Dean Parsons explains.

Turks Select Cigar’s first blend was named “1841” in honour of Slave Ship Trouvadore that marked a special spot in local history as the ship used for the transportation of a group of Africans into slavery, but sank in 1841 as it voyages across the Atlantic.

“We hope to do several blends in the next few years. We will be surrounding a certain point in history in each of the different cigars that we produce for the Turks & Caicos Islands”, Mr. Parsons further explains.

Additionally, Mr. Parsons said that the idea of producing a specific blend for TCI came about through collaboration with Eddy Fontana of E. Zarzuela Cigars to make an exclusive Turks & Caicos cigar in terms of flavor, strength and body.

The locally named cigar is being produced at an E. Zarzuela Cigars factory in Santiago. A cigar aficionado who graced the event said that the cigar blend has a very nice flavor. “I took the plunge and enjoyed a hand rolled Turks cigar. The blend is not too dry and not too moist either. It’s a smooth draw, it is very enjoyable.”

Other attendees to the event also commented that the TCI cigars make a good gift.
