As part of the review process of all statutory Boards, the Governor announced this week the termination of the appointments of members of the Tourist Board on 4 August and, on 7 August, appointed a new, smaller Board under the Chairmanship of Dr Hubert Fulford to conduct the business of the Board until further notice. The other members of the Board will be Mr Kingsley Been, Mr Alpheus Gardiner, Ms Anya Williams and Mr Keith Bellamy.
At the same time, the Governor is appointing a Working Group under the chairmanship of Mr Clive Stanbrook QC to make recommendations on the future organisation and funding of tourism promotion in the Turks and Caicos Islands. According to the announcement by the Governor, other members of the group will be drawn from major stakeholders in the tourist industry. Ex officio members will also include Mr Kingsley Been, who is intended to provide a link with the new Board, and Mr Arthur Been (Acting Permanent Secretary/Tourism). The Working Group is expected to submit an initial report of their findings and recommendations by or before mid-November; and following consideration of this report by the Governor and Advisory Council, the Governor is expected to release a final report with recommendations within a further 2 weeks. Full details of the Working Group membership are expected to be released by the Governor’s office next week.
