Mrs. Turks and Caicos World visits Bahamas pageant

It was a pleasure for me to be in the Bahamas last weekend for the crowning of Mrs. Keldra Pinder as Mrs. Bahamas World. All in all it was a good event, and I enjoyed meeting Mrs. Bahamas World.

Glorious Italy – wine, food, views

Everyone knows the wine Chianti from central Italy, but few know the real story.

Chianti was the red wine produced by everyone from the small farmer to homeowners looking for a drinking wine to take them through the year. The region was populated by wealthy Italians from Milan and Florence during the summer months but left to the locals for nine months of the year.

These wealthy summer visitors carried Chianti home with them and didn’t think much about it — just drinking wine! Then in the 1960s, it really hit the international stage, and thus began the rise and of the Chianti empire.

Former TCI top model wins Trinidad pageant

The Turks and Caicos Islands first Top Model Contest winner, Davia Chambers, was crowned Miss World Trinidad and Tobago 2010 recently.

That means she will represent Trinidad and Tobago in Miss World 2010 in Sanya, People’s Republic of China on Oct. 30.

Lobster harvest begins

Lobster season officially opened on Sunday, Aug. 1, which makes this favorite crustacean a part of the Turks and Caicos Islands menu again.

Lobster is off the menu by order of the government from April 1 to Aug. 1 in order to allow lobster stocks time to reproduce. This is strictly enforced by the Fisheries Department and the Department of Environment and Coastal Resources (DECR).
